Approach on soft barrier to enhance knowledge to OSH in worksite has become norm in Malaysia culture. This approach is very critical especially to your very OSH team like safety committee member or emergency response team. Some are tremendously succeeded and some are not. I’ve been in these two scenarios. The one-man show is the tough experienced ever (no pain no gain). But still you need to organize your OSH Team that as stipulated in legislation. Sometimes, you have to admit, it is only on the paper! They are not functioning as one team. Example, they do not know how to investigate, how to conduct head count, how to assist workers to assembly area and the list go on. Even, if you conduct the emergency drill, it is only the “time-attack” scenario – to be at muster station or assembly area within time limit.
Now, do you think by organizing the team building will develop their understanding and skills? Researchers has agreed that team building has a positive effect (Klein et al. 2009). Additionally, research by Applebaum and Batt (1994) indicated that company will gain improvements in organizational performance overall and upscaling on of both efficiency and quality.
